Photographer Wayne Hathaway logged zero frequent flyer miles making the wildlife photos that appear in his book “A Day at the Lake.”

He proved you don’t have to travel to Alaska or the Amazon to capture impressive images of birds, reptiles, mammals and flora. You don’t even have to travel outside Lincoln’s city limits.

Every image in the 147-page volume was taken at Holmes Lake. Yes, that Holmes Lake, the one at 70th Street and Normal Boulevard in southeast Lincoln.
