Remembering Rotarian Don Miltner

What Does Rotary Mean to You? — As mentioned last week, former
Rotarian Don Miltner passed away and his funeral service was last week. The following passage was printed in his memorial service program.

I believe a person’s greatest possession is his
character and that nothing bestows this more
abundantly than service to your community, and to humanity.
I believe hard work, honest toil, perseverance and
“Service Above Self” are the building blocks of a person’s character.
I believe that community service is the most
honourable (sic) way a man can spend his days on this earth.
I believe community service nurtures the friendships that make life
rich in ways that money just can’t buy.
I believe my children are learning values that will last them a lifetime
and can be learned in no other way than by example.
I believe that by my community service I am giving more to the world
than I am taking from it; this is an honour (sic) that does not come to
all men.
I believe that ultimately our lives will be measured by what we have
done for our fellow man, and that by this standard we Rotarians need
fear no judgement. (sic)
I believe when a man grows old and sums up his days, he should be
able to stand tall and feel pride in the life he’s lived of “Service Above Self”.
I believe in Rotary because it makes all these things possible.

What a tribute to Rotary. As a 50-year Rotarian, it would appear Don
understood what it means to be a Rotarian. Thank you Don!
