From “The Old Dog”
Murphy studied him awhile and then nudged the pocket where I keep a few treats. I gave him one. He walked up to Jim and dropped it on the ground under his nose. The old dog picked it up, held it in his mouth a second or two and then let it fall back to the ground. He sighed and put his head down.
Murphy knew.
He took the treat in his mouth, chewed it into small pieces and dropped them under Jim’s nose.
The old dog ate every one of those small pieces.
